It's always been a dream of mine to run in the INDY 500. Now at the age of 51 I am making my attempt to race our country's oldest,  most famous and the WORLD's Largest live one day sporting event seen by almost 400,000 spectators The USF2000 "OVAL Crown Championship" offers me a way to show my racing skills to the INDY teams and come closer to this dream.

The Goal

I have always dreamed of racing in the INDY500. It started at the age of  3 when I first felt the feeling of speed when I took my  pedal powered fire truck down a big hill because my feet couldn't pedal me fast enough.

The Cause

I have been one of the lucky ones to  beat cancer in 1984. "Early detection and a strong WILL to survive was the key".  "If something doesn't look right than have a Doctor check you out". I know because of my own experience.  Now I want to use this strong WILL  power and my Racing experience to race in the Indy500 and help others through my support of the American Cancer Society. Thru them someday all of us we will win the fight against cancer.

I've always had a very competitive nature and strong will to win and to  overcome obstacles. In 1991, while racing in a World Karting Association race at Charlotte Motor Speedway my helmet shield was torn off .  I was wearing contact lenses at the time and the wind and debris was  blinding me. My eyes were tearing so badly that I could barely see the track. I had to run the race with one hand over my forehead to shield my eyes and the other to steer and shift gears. After the race I could barely see to walk but I had to get myself to the tech shed within 30 minutes or be disqualified. Arriving late to tech had cost me a third and a forth in the nationals a year earlier so I knew no matter what I had to get there.  After making a few wrong turns and with the help of some kind spectators  I finally found it. I had no idea where I had finished but was glad that I had stuck it out and "finished".   When I arrived at "tech" I was greeted with an incredible surprise  - I had WON.  I could not believe it. I had so many tears in my eyes while I was racing that I did not even see that I had caught and passed the leaders.

I ran my first "organized" race in 1966 when I was 18 and in college.  I entered a SCCA autocross with my 1962 TR4 taking a second place.  I raced at this minor level for many years and Always being fascinated with speed in 1985 I  started racing a 300 H.P. (200 mph) motorcycle I built myself. It took me 4 years to be able to drive it to work without it blowing up. I entered my first race with it and finished another disappointing second. In 1987 I moved into the enduro karts, 1988 125 enduro superkarts and managed to finish 5 in the World Karting Association National Championship.  What was really interested about that year was that I had completely totaled my very first 125 enduro superkart  at Rockingham in the my first race in the beginning of the season. I had gone from 110 mph to zero in about 5 feet after losing the brakes due to a loose brake line caused by a vibrating front tire.  I don't know how BUT I was uninjured and had a  Lucky year after that..

I became a National and World Karting Champion.  In 1989 I  entered the Skip Barber 3 day Competition Course (which is still  "the best training I ever got") and then entered the Skip Barber Formula Ford Series starting in Watkins Glen. I had to start rear of the field because I was a ROOKIE and worked my way up to 5th before being forced to retire with a blown transmission.

In 1990 I entered the Bertil Roos' F2000 Series.  I entered  4 races that year and won all 4, one in the rain and snow,  I was called "the gokarter" by Bertil Roos.  In 1995 I qualified for the Skip Barber Dodge Pro Series in Sebring, Florida. My first Big Pro race was to be at Phoenix a few months later. But a chance meeting with my college sweetheart, "MY FIRST TRUE LOVE", occurred and my Pro racing plans had to go on hold for some years while we got married and settled into married life.

Then in 1999 I received my  SCCA Pro License, USAC Pro License and USF2000 Pro License. I tried out for the USF2000 Pro Series in a F2000 car on the Quintanilla's Race Team and during practice at the Texas Motor Speedway got a very fastest times out of an F2000 car - 157 m.p.h.  I later ran one of the fastest times ever during the USF2000 race at Atlanta Motor Speedway hitting almost 150 m.p.h. That was during the fasted race ever held in the USF 2000 Pro series.  Later the I was offered the opportunity to race with the team and subsequently have been offered to drive on other F2000 teams in 1999 and year 2000.  Currently I am racing for the Carbir Race Team for the USF2000 Pro series " Oval Crown Championship".  Having become very experienced with our country's road courses over the last 14 years,  I am now concentrating on the oval tracks,  but I'll always love the road courses.

I am currently "in talks" with several INDY (IRL) teams putting plans together for being "the INDY500's Oldest Rookie" to ever race in the annual race.
